Amalienborg Museum - and A Queen’s Jewelry Box

Amalienborg Museum
In the heart of Copenhagen, you are invited inside the Amalienborg Museum in one of Europe’s finest Rococo buildings and to come very close to the royal family.

In 2022, as something very special, you can experience the special exhibition A Queen’s Jewelry Box - 50 years on the throne told in jewelry on the occasion of H.M. The Queen’s 50th Government Anniversary. The exhibition is on display at the Amalienborg Museum in Christian VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg and can be experienced from 14 of January to 23 of October 2022.

The Queen has a large collection of jewelery, which the Queen uses very consciously and actively - and with care and consideration. For His Majesty, jewelry is not just jewelry. They are symbols and carriers of memories, friendships, continuity, of life as Denmark’s regent through 50 years and 50 years of Danish history.

The exhibition presents for the first time ever over 200 well-known and lesser-known jewelery from the Queen’s jewelery collection. Each piece of jewelery in the exhibition bears a story and refers to one or more private or official events during the Queen’s 50-year reign. As a very special experience in the exhibition, the Queen herself has given voice to the audio guide that is handed out when you visit the museum. With the audio guide in hand, you can therefore during the exhibition hear the Queen herself tell about selected jewelry and events.

Kongeres Samling has in collaboration with Politikens Forlag published the book A Queen’s Jewelry Box.

The Amalienborg Museum is located directly opposite H.M. The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple’s residence. A visit to the museum is like stepping 150 years back in time, to a walk through the history of the Danish kings and queens. Experience i.a. Christian 10.’s study and Frederik 9.’s office, which stands as they did then. Take a walk around the palace’s many beautiful rooms and notice how each room bears the imprint of the royals’ personal tastes.

You can also experience magnificent Russian jewelery art in the Fabergé Chamber, where you can, among other things, see a giant champagne cooler in gilded silver. End your visit to the castle shop, where you can find a wealth of the finest Fabergé decorations, jewelery, books, postcards and much more.
