Redtown Bed and Breakfast

The name refers to Rødby - Rødby in Danish means redtown - but also to the redbrick houses in Torvegade, one of the best preserved old streets in ferry port town Rødbyhavn. The houses were built about 100 years ago for people employed at the shipyard at that time. Since then many events have taken place, one of the most important was establishing the ferry route to Germany just over 50 years ago.

Lolland - island of wild nature with a sea view

Lolland has a lot to offer not least for outdoor and nature lovers. The flat landscape makes it ideal for cycling. By the South coast of the island you can cycle along a unique path on the dike viewing the sea, birdlife and the special landscape of canals.

The dike was built about 150 years ago and has served its purpose ever since. This cycling path through wild nature stretches from the harbour town Nakskov in the West to the picturesque village of Nysted in the East. Redtown BB in Rødbyhavn is conveniently situated for an overnight stop on the way.

The dike path runs right down at the end of the road Torvegade, and at number 7 you can give yourself and your bicycle - a rest. After settling in you will not have to walk far to your evening meal at the restaurants on the main street of Rødbyhavn. From the leisure boat area you can relax and watch the ferries to Germany coming and going.

Pay a visit to the exhibition about the Fehmarn tunnel construction project in the harbour and get insight into the development plans for the area. At the local beach you can take a dip in the sea and go for a walk to the holiday resort Lalandia with a choice of restaurants and amusements for both children and adults.

Inspiration from Ireland and Sweden

Susan moved to Rødbyhavn in the Autumn of 2014 after having lived in Malmö, Sweden for some years, where she also welcomed guest to her home. For a few years she also lived in Ireland ,and when travelling around, Susan experienced the welcoming attitude of the Irish. She finds it inspiring to talk to her guests at breakfast or in the evening and would like her guests to feel at home and make the most of their holiday.

Many tourists would like to get to know more about daily life in the place, they are visiting and take part in the leisure activities offered to locals. At Susan’s place you will find a broad selection of brochures, and she is pleased to give you suggestions of places to visit and things to do.

Day trips South and North

Rødbyhavn is ideal for a day trip across to the German holiday island Fehmarn, and you will also find well-signed cycling paths here. There are many small harbour towns, and in the largest town Burg offers a broad selection of shops and restaurants.

After a night’s sleep in Rødbyhavn you can either cycle further along the dike or go North along the old railway track to the lovely lakeland district by the town of Maribo. Here you can follow the Monks’ Road - Munkevejen - where many historical places are signposted along the way.

Naturally, you are welcome at Redtown BB with your car as well - free and safe parking is available, but to Susan it is important to promote green tourism. Rødbyhavn is ideally situated for public transport.

The town has daily train connections to both Copenhagen and Hamburg, and by local bus you can reach Maribo easily. By local train you can continue to Nakskov. Most trains and the ferries also allow you to bring your bicycle. Redtown BB is open all year round.
