Love is in the Air - The Old Chestnut Tree i Silkeborg Bed and Breakfast

It all started high up in the air crossing the Indian Ocean four years ago, when French born Cécile was flying back home to Amsterdam after a holiday to Malaysia.

At the airport in Kuala Lumpur Cécile gets talking to an extremely charming Danish man. Later it appears, that they have been seated next to each other during the 11-hour flight back. Before touching ground they are both love-struck. Shortly after Cécile is living in a large villa in Silkeborg with her new Danish husband, four grown-up children and part of an extended Danish family.

However, not everything was coming up roses. During the financial crises it was not the best of times for Cécile to find a new job in Denmark. Although she by now mastered writing and reading Danish, she found it very hard to speak the language. – Cécile was not able to find a job, but inventive as she is, she thought, “I have a large house. I’ll create my own job and set up a Bed & Breakfast”. Within a short time her idea had become reality.

Denmark’s favourite Bed and Breakfast

”It is important to me, that my Bed and Breakfast is clean and cosy, and that I am friendly and offer a comfortable bed. I want my guests to feel at home, and this also means having a chat with me as a hostess. This is, what I like myself when travelling”, Cécile says. She gives high priority to service and adds some luxury, and therefore her place is a bit more expensive than most of her colleagues’. Among other things Cécile offers her guests the use of an expresso machine, free minibar with coffee, soft drinks and chocolate.

The high standard was the reason for Cécile’s Bed and Breakfast reaching the number 1 ranking at the Traveller’s Choice Awards in Denmark 2014.

One of Céciles guests says, “The most beautiful BB ever. Our best stay in Denmark the Summer of 2014! It’s hard to find a friendlier, more helpful and charming hostess. The rooms and the bathroom were so stylish and lovely, that we just wanted to stay there. Very comfortable beds. We had a fantastic breakfast in their beautiful garden, and Cécile gave us loads of tips to, what we could see in the area. I highly recommend this home away from home to everyone! We want to return to Silkeborg - not just because of the lovely surroundings, but most of all to visit the old Chestnut Tree again”.

The Old Chestnut Tree attracts guest from all over the world

The name, Old Chestnut Tree, came naturally. Cécile has a 100-year-old huge chestnut tree in her garden. She chose the English version of the word to appeal to guests from all over the world, and it is suits the smiling world citizen Cécile Robles very well.

Cécile was born in Paris and lived in France, Africa, Holland, and Denmark. She has visited almost every corner of the earth. She has friends and two adult children in Holland, and her parents and brother live in France. Her jobs in the past include being a radio host at a Dutch radio station, bookkeeper at a pharmacy, and a conflict mediator for the police in Holland. In addition to this, she also speaks French, English, Italian and Dutch!

My place shows that I love the whole world

At The Old Chestnut Tree you’ll find things from all over the world. Chairs from Indonesia, a large, old, African door in the dining room, Dutch cups and a unique Dutch table made from second hand materials, French linen, an old Indian door used as headboard and several pieces of African art. Cécile is also very fond of Denmark. “The best thing by living in Denmark is the sense of security. It’s like a very large home, because it’s so safe here. You need not fear crime and violence. This means, that I don’t get stressed, and people are so friendly and nice, and then I love every time someone comes to stay at my place”, Cécile concludes with a smile.
