It is, jutlandic steadiness and a wide smile, that Inger Møller Jensen meets you with, when she opens the door, to welcome you to Klintevej. A small windy footpath leads you to up to the house, and with the many small glints from the water through the trees, you very quickly notice the incredible view, the house has over the waters by the Vandkraftsø lake in Holstebro. Inger was born and raised on the top soils of Jutland in the town of Thy, but she has had the luck of being married to a husband, who was stationed abroad by his employer, who did assignments for the World Bank, which included its department in Singapore. Here, Ingrid and their two children, who were 10 and 13 years old at the time, followed, when he was stationed here in 1980. It was an incredible experience, Inger says about having the honour of living in such an exotic and different location on the globe. I had never dreamed of sending my two children to a school, which had been founded by Lord Mountbatten, and they did not know a single word of english, when we landed in Singapore. But they quickly got the hang of it, i’ll say. After only two monts, they were able to attend classes. Inger quickly got fed up with working at home as the lady of the house, and tried to get out as a volunteer at a nearby school. There, she became the school’s librarian, receiving the princely salary of one cup of coffee a day. It was a job appreciated and conducted throughout the three years, she lived in Singapore.
The house on Klintevej was originally built as a holiday cottage during the 1930’s as the very first house on the road. During the war, the holiday cottage was approved as a house to the homeless, thus becoming an all-year residence. In 1993 Inger and her husband bought the house, and started to add to the house and rebuild it to such an extent, that it today is an exceptionally attractive home. It is built on sloping grounds with two entire storeys, glass front and a beautiful view over the lake.
The many work-related seperations in the marriage became a permanent one in 2006, when Inger got divorced. Simoltaneously she decided, that all the room in the house should be used for joy and benefit to others. She wanted to set up a bed and breakfast. Inger rolled up her sleves and embarked on those parts of the house, which would house the new bed and breakfast. Built-in cupboards were removed, the rooms were refurbished, repainted and redecorated to a lovely and huge room with a seperate kitchen, a bath and a terrace with view over the lake.
In 2007 Bed and Breakfast Ved Vandkraftøen became a reality. Since then, Inger has had many guests, who have benefitted from her hospitality and the house’s beautiful location. The latest visitor was a Canadian gentleman. He confided with Inger, that he had built the stone stairs in the house back in the 30’s, before going to Canada. That is pretty amusing, don’t you think? Inger concludes as she takes another sip of her coffee. Would you like one as well?
